American Football Clinic
On 3rd November 2017, students from years 9 to 13 at ISTwente secondary participated in their final lesson of a short course in American Football! The students gathered three early Friday mornings on the gym field where they were awaited by four sturdy coaches from the Enschede Broncos. None other than Camilio Delfgaauw, who plays for the Dutch Football team, was one of their trainers! The students started out practicing some catching and throwing as well as running techniques. After warming up they played FlagFootball in small groups, the non-contact version of American Football. Despite the cold we saw some amazing dives and other moves on the wet grass!
The initiative to organize the clinic came from our PE teacher Ms. Marjolein van der Pol. She says: "I think it is important for students to get to know other sports other than the basics such as soccer, basketball, badminton and gymnastics." In light of this goal, the students will also be introduced to other sport clubs in Enschede over the course of the school year, such as the 'Fitform' gym, Climbing Hall 'Arque', hockey and athletics clubs and the 'Citadel' to do some squash. Ms. Van der Pol says: "The students can get acquainted with the various sports Enschede has to offer, and hopefully, some of them might stick as well."
