Careers Week 2017
This year, for the first time in the history of our school, ISTwente secondary hosted Careers Week. From Monday 20th to Friday 24th of November 2017, the students in years 12 and 13 participated in various activities arranged and accompanied by our Careers Counsellor and CAS Coordinator Ms. Esther Dommerholt.
Create your own membrane
Monday morning the students assembled at the Carré building on the campus of the University of Twente. Here they visited the StudentLab and were adorned in laboratory coats and goggles. After the necessary safety precautions were met, the students were given various scientific assignments, amongst others to create their own membranes!
Site visit to Pentair and making moodboards
On Tuesday, the group of students was split in half, with separate activities they attended in alternated order. Group 1 traveled to Pentair X-Flow in Enschede first for a site visit and were shown around the factory. Group 2 started with a creative workshop before heading out for the same company. After browsing through various magazines, newspaper and advertisements, the students cut, glued and drew on their personal moodboards reflecting what and who they would like to be in the future.
The UT campus: a one-stop-shop
Wednesday morning, the students headed out to the University of Twente again, now assembling at the Ravelijn Building. Here they were given information about the various bachelor programmes the University has to offer in English. Afterwards they were given a tour of the grounds; a one-stop-shop for students who will find everything they need situated on this marvelous campus!
What will I be?
Thursday morning various guest speakers were invited to ISTwente to share specific information with our students. The first speakers were two international students from Saxion who spoke of their current studies and the possibilities at this University of Applied Sciences. They were followed by two parents from our school, Mr. Slenter and Mr. Minervini, who spoke of their own education, their career paths and current jobs, providing significant tips to our students.
After a short break the moodboards, which the students had made on Tuesday, were hung up on the walls. The students were then invited in the classroom and given the assignment to write down the name of the creator of each moodboard based on their contents. The students were unanimous in their judgment and so the prizes were handed out to the two students who had organized this fun event.
Friday morning, the students in years 11, 12 and 13 assembled at ISTwente Secondary from whence they traveled to the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Here they attended the Go-Abroad Fair and the Study Exhibition mid and gained inspiration for their next steps after ISTwente.
The Go-Abroad Fair focuses on students who wish to live and study abroad after graduating. Universities and colleges from all over the world were on the spot to provide information. The Study Exhibition mid focuses on higher education in The Netherlands and various Universities of Applied Sciences were represented.
The bus made its way back to Enschede at 14.00 and the students filled out an evaluation form to ensure that next year's Careers Week will be even better than this first one!
