Sinterklaas and his Pieten visit ISTwente primary

Every year on 5th December, the Dutch celebrate (the birthday of) Sinterklaas. According to legend, Sinterklaas (or Sint) was a saint from Turkey, known as St. Nicolaus. He was the Bishop of Mira, and an honourable man who was kind to children. Every year, Sinterklaas visits the Netherlands bringing along his assistants, the Chimney Pieten, and many presents and sweets for the children.

Once in the Netherlands, ISTwente primary had a visit from Messy Piet on 29th November 2017. Not only did he leave a present behind for every child, he also lived up to his name and left behind one big mess which kept the children busy half the morning to clean up together.

On Tuesday 5th December 2017 the Sint and two of his Pieten took time out of their busy schedule to visit ISTwente primary. They initially planned to arrive by hot air balloon, however the wind was too strong and so they came by cab. After arriving, the Sint paid a visit to each class and handed out gifts and pepernoten!
