International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
ISTwente has joined the ranks of the International Baccalaureate World Schools. These schools share a common philosophy: a commitment to high-quality, challenging, international education which ISTwente believes is important for our students. Central to the IB programmes is the IB learner profile, which is the IB mission translated into ten characteristics that define an internationally-minded student or teacher.
The International Baccalaureate aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Their programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate, and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme encourages inquiry based learning, teaching students to think one step ahead. The span of subjects the IB has to offer is broad, consisting of over 100 subjects. The core of ISTwente's curriculum is made up of the following building blocks:
- Languages A: English, Dutch and Spanish, Mother tongue
- Language B: English, Dutch, Spanish ab initio
- Humanities: Geography and Economics
- Science: Biology, Physics, Chemistry
- Visual Arts
Students will be required to take at least three subjects at a standard level and three subjects at a high level. In addition, there are three core subjects which are compulsory, namely:
- Theory of Knowledge
- Extended essay
- CAS (Creativity, Activity and Service)
